Monthly Meeting of SB Club Monday, May 1, 2023

We would like to inform you that the monthly online meeting of Synthetic Biology Club (SB club) will be held this Monday, May 1 at 12h00 (EST). The meeting usually takes place in the last Monday of every month, but note that this meeting will Exceptionally be held in the first Monday (May 1st), while knowing that we will have another meeting in the last Monday of May too. Please, Click here to register after which you will receive the meeting link (zoom).

Title: Heterologous production of isoprenoids in single celled organisms

Presenter: Valerie Ward, Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Time: Monday, May 1, 2023 at 12h00 (EST).

Place: Online (via Zoom). The zoom link of the meeting is provided by email after your registration. Click here to register.

Abstract: Isoprenoids are a large class of molecules synthesized from one of two natural biosynthesis pathways. Isoprenoids have a large number of end-uses as flavorings, aromas, pigments, and therapeutics for example. Many isoprenoids are currently made by large scale extractions of plant biomass resulting in mixtures of compounds. Heterologous production is desirable for the production of therapeutics to minimize the production of other isoprenoid impurities and to reduce the environmental and monetary cost of making these compounds. In this work, I will discuss the production of isoprenoids using a novel artificial biosynthesis pathway in E. coli and via in vitro biocatalysis.
