Laval University – Institute of integrative biology and systems (IBIS)
I am a first-year biochemistry student at Laval University who si very much interested in synthetic biology. This intricate field interests me because I find it extremely fascinating and because I believe it can help with many problems we face as a species today like sustainable energy, cost-efficient drug production and fighting pollution and climate change. I chose to work here this summer to first get a glimpse of what research is really like and to become acquainted with synthetic biology. This summer, I will be make comparative lipidomic studies in oleaginous yeasts like Yarrowia lipolytica and will study also possible avenues of genome editing to enhance and control its lipid production.
