MSc Student, 2021-2023
Laval University – Institute of integrative biology and systems (IBIS)
In 2021, I graduated from Laval University in BSc in Biochemistry. In that same year, I did an undergraduate internship at the Abdel-Mawgoud Synthetic Biology Lab. This internship allowed me to contribute to the project "Boosting Cas9 expression for more efficient genome editing in Yarrowia lipolytica" and to produce interesting results, but also to learn more deeply about the underlying mechanism of gene editing by the CRISPR-Cas9 system. My contribution to the project allowed me to present my results at the BiSP 2021 conference. Since 2020, I have been participating in the synthetic biology team of Laval University. The latter compete at the international competition of iGEM in which we won a gold medal in 2020 for our project consisting on revaluing a defective maple product using enzymes. I am currently (2021) starting a MSc in biochemistry at the Abdel-Mawgoud Lab on a project aiming at producing optimized biodiesels by means of genetic modification in the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica. This allows me to apply my knowledge of recombinant DNA and synthetic biology. My interest in the lab has been directed mainly by its use of synthetic biology in its different research themes. This summer, I will also contribute to the reorganization of the recombinant DNA technology and Synthetic biology courses (BCM-3000/BCM-3010) at Laval University as a Teaching Assistant. Having already done this course in the past, I believe I can contribute with my skills and knowledge of DNA manipulation techniques, but also with my personal experience of the course.
